Week 10. Food for thought...

Well, 10 week course is approaching its logical end. I can't say that it was easy as it requires enough time and when you are working your usual hours and even more it's a bit challenging to find enough time to complete all assignments consciously. Although I didn't read all the articles I added course assignments' page to my Delicious page, so I'll be able to look through some articles when I need it.

As for most successful topics I can't stress some of them as in every topic I found ideas which are new, interesting and practical for me as I work with different groups, levels, programs and languages, so this or that idea can be used with this or that course and it will be useful and will make course more efficient.

There were a lot of new tools for me. Although I heard about them before I didn't use them and even didn't read or learn about them. "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn" (B. Franklin). I thing this quotation is the essence of this course. Nothing to take away, nothing to add. May be my more advanced colleagues will be more critical and constructive as some of them are real professional in a great variety of technology tools. And I'm happy to be with them in this course!
Thank you!

Best,
Olga

  1. Hi Olga,

    Greetings from China.

You mentioned in your blog “it’s a bit challenging to find enough time to complete all assignments”. Similarly, I have also faced the same challenge of being short of time. As a teacher, I have a lot of work to do at school, e.g. teaching, class preparation, giving feedback to students' homework, attending conferences, preparing for exams, etc. Besides, as a family member, we have to take the responsibility of taking care of family. Sometimes, time is too tight to spare, I have to stay up until the mid-night (burning the mid-night oil). Frankly speaking, it's not easy to be a teacher and a student at the same time.

However, I have been enjoying the happiness of learning new technology throughout the course. It’s fun and exciting to explore new technology on weekly basis.

I agree with you as well that there are some tools we may have already known but we have never thought of trying them. One of benefits from taking this course is to get ourselves involved in the actual use of technology under the guidance and support of our instructor, Sean.

    Keep in touch,
    Fan

  2. Hello Olga,

I agree with all your concerns. I think 'effective' time management is another skill we have developed along with the web skills throughout the course. As we (course participants) are already very busy at our workplaces, we need to spare time to do the tasks that are required in the course. Personally I have tried really hard to meet up the deadlines. I like the idea that we have 2 deadlines in the course so that we don't need to finish everything at the same time. I think doing a task step by step is more manageable than doing it at one go.

    All the best,
    Eda

  3. Hi Olga,

This course introduced me to a lot of new tools as well. I can admit that apart from the lap top and the data show projector to give oral presentations, all the other tools have been completely new for me.
I like the B. Franklin's quotations you posted, "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn". This is exactly what all the course is about.

Good luck and all the best,
    Mounira
